Introduction
An Items List and/or Shipping List is an important resource in any Harvest Moon or Rune Factory game, but perhaps even more critical in Rune Factory, where Items are needed to create other Items. In Harvest Moon games, your Character can create Cooked Dishes but in any Rune Factory game, he/she can create and upgrade Weapons, Equipment and Accessories at Forge and Workbench as well as making Medicines in a Pharmacy. It therefore is extremely useful to know where and how to obtain every Item.
In Rune Factory 3, shipping Items is the only way to obtain income from them. You cannot sell them at a local shop. You can ship Weapons, Accessories and Tools, however, as well as Crops, Items found when Foraging and Cooked Dishes. Shipments are collected at 5.00 p.m. each day by the indolent Karina, daughter of Hazel, the proprietress of the General Store.
You will find that Shipping Values are far below the price that the same Item would command when sold by any local Merchant. You therefore should not purchase Items in order to ship them. Some Items that you can purchase at local Shops can be obtained in other ways. For example, Seeds will appear randomly whenever you harvest a Crop or Wild Item from any Field. Chests containing Ingredients, Crops, Seeds and even Accessories appear randomly on the map in every Dungeon.
Most importantly perhaps, you should be aware of the fact that all Basic Tools will be given as Gifts or Rewards by other Characters if you perform their Requests. There is no need to purchase any basic Tool in Rune Factory 3. You will find a section about this in my Walkthrough/General Guide. You will be given your first Weapon at the very start of the game. If you are concerned more about shipping values than actual practicality, you can choose the most valuable Weapon of those offered, ship it and purchase a simple Sword afterwards from Raven at the Weapons Shop.
Many valuable Items can be found throughout the Village when you explore the interiors of all shops and homes. Finding these 'Treasures' often requires that you access the Item at the right time when specific Individuals are present. A section in my Walkthrough lists many of these Items and the requirements for finding them.
The first price shown after the name of the Item is the price you would PAY for it. The 'Sell' price is the Shipping Value. The Cooked Dishes List may contain some duplicate Cooked Dishes as Dishes made with different sizes of ingredients are considered different Recipes although they will be shipped as the same Dish.
Quality and Value
In Rune Factory 3, an Item's Quality is defined by its Level. Level 1 represents the lowest quality and the Level of an Item determines more than its Shipping Value. In terms of Items that can be consumed or used, the Level will determine the potency and effect that the Item will have. A Level 10 Steel Sword will be more powerful than a Level 1 Steel Sword. A Level 10 Squid Sashimi will have a more potent effect than a Level 1 Squid Sashimi when consumed.
If you compare all the values of a Level 1 Squid Sashimi with a Level 10 Squid Sashimi, you will see that the differences are significant both in terms of Shipping Value and in terms of potency. The only variable that will not change is the duration of the Item's Effect.

Ores and Gems can be found by smashing Rocks in any Dungeon. Some Ores and Gems are dungeon-specific but others, including Scrap Metal and Iron, can be found in all areas. Ores and Gems can be dropped as War Trophies by defeated Monsters as well. Elemental Crystals are found most often when a Monster Generator is destroyed. The colour of the Generator will determine the nature of Elemental Crystal that can be obtained randomly when it is smashed.

There may be more likelihood, however, of finding certain colours of Generator in some Dungeons. For example, one tends to find the Generators that hold Fire Crystals in the Sol Terrano Desert Dungeon. Some Elemental Crystals can be found in more than one manner. When smashing a Rock for Ore/Gems, you may find an Earth Crystal. A Small Crystal can be a War Trophy but can be found inside Monster Generators as well.

Forging in Rune Factory 3
Forging is a process that will be familiar to players of prior games in the series, but Rune Factory 3 is unique in many ways. First of all, you will learn Recipes by means of the Weapons Bread that you can purchase and consume. Second of all, although the creation of a new Weapon requires set Ingredients delineated in the Recipe, the Upgrade of Weapons and Equipment can be done with any number of Items.
In Rune Factory 3, War Trophies have specific Stats that will affect any Item to which they are added in order to upgrade it.
The Menu at your Forge will be divided into two Options:

If you choose the Option to Make an Item, you will be able to make it by using the required Ingredients, and the Recipes that you have learned will be displayed.

Forge Recipes
When the Sharance Tree has been expanded, you will be able to order a Forge from Raven for 100 Wood and 5000G. It will be completed instantly and she will give you 9 Weapon Bread to help you begin your new craft. It is a quality of Weapons Bread that you must be within a certain Skill Level to be able to obtain a specific Recipe. At least half of the Weapons Breads that Raven gives will be advanced Recipes that you will not be able to 'learn'. It may be best to save your game before you consume the Weapons Bread and then save only when the Recipe is one that you can learn. Store the rest of the Weapons Bread until you have spent some time at the forge.

Weapons, Equipment and Accessory Items can be purchased or forged by your Character once he has a Forge and Workshop. Some Weapons, Equipment and Accessories will be sold from the start of the first Spring. It is the Special Deals Menu at the Blacksmith Shop that will offer Weapons that would not appear in the specific Categories at this stage in the game.
For example, although Raven sells a Broadsword in her Sword/Shields Menu, the more powerful Steel Sword and Cutlass only appear randomly in the Special Deals Menu. It therefore is a good idea to access her Special Deals on a daily basis if you wish to improve your Weapons and Equipment.
